Coloured eyeliners are trending this season. Actually they have been for a while now and it looks like they are here to stay. If you’re like me and you love to switch up your look every now and then, you may want to consider trying them out. Today I’ll be sharing some tips to help you rock this trend like it was made just for you. Read on.
1) Pick a suitable colour.
When it comes to coloured liners, favourite doesn’t cut it. Just because you like a colour doesn’t necessarily mean it would look good on your eyes. You NEED to pick a colour that complements (not matches) your eye colour.
- Brown eyes: navy blue or cobalt liners.
- Blue eyes: bronze, orange or rust liners.
- Green eyes: deep purple or magenta liners.
- Hazel eyes: green or purple liners.
2) Choose your formula.
When it comes to liners, texture matters a lot. So whether it’s pencil, gel or liquid, you have to figure out what works best for you depending on the look you want to achieve. If you’re a beginner, a pencil is your best bet because it is easiest to use and gives maximum control.
3) Get close to the lash line.
When using bright hued eyeliners, it is advisable to keep the colour to the line of your eye. To achieve this, work your way from the top innermost area to the outer corner. Then do the bottom line, starting from the outside and working inward. The key to a flawless finish is to keep your head in place and move the liner instead.
4) Make eyeliner the focus.
To get the best out of this trend, keep the rest of the makeup minimal. The eyeliner should not compete with other features on your face. If you must use an eye shadow, make sure to keep it neutral. Finish off the look with sheer gloss or nude lipsticks (light pink, peach or brown depending on your skin tone).
5) Go dark.
For a bright but not so dramatic look, first line your eyes with regular black pencil and then move the liner on top of it (sparkly liners can be used here), lightly smudging them together. The darkness makes the intensity from the coloured liner more defined and beautiful.
Once you get a hang of all this, you can get creative by layering complementing colours for a dramatic dual tone effect to the eyes. You can also use coloured mascara along with the liner although makeup experts recommend ditching mascara altogether for a clean, fresh take on the trend.
